RUTH C. HANFORD,
age 81, formerly of Dryden, NY died Sunday, Dec. 3rd, 2006 at the Groton Nursing Facility. Mrs. Hanford was born December 26, 1924 in Cortland, a daughter of the late LeeGrande and Nellie Churchill Cottrell. Ruth was graduated from Dryden High School in 1942 and with her husband, George Hanford, operated a dairy farm on Simms Hill Rd. in Dryden for many years. She also was employed as a bookkeeper at Stafford’s Garage, Tompkins County Clerk’s office and the Town of Dryden. Later she assisted George with his land surveying business. Ruth was a life member of the Dryden Grange and was active in the Farm Bureau and Home Dem.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, George Hanford of Groton; her children, Harold L. Hanford of Bath, NY, Marcia H. (Warren) Wentworth of King Ferry and Keith E. (Pat) Hanford of Macedon, NY; seven grandchildren, Paul Hanford, A.J. Humphrey, Beth (Tim) Myer, Jeff (Shannon) Humphrey, Scott (Mandy) Hanford, Kim Hanford and Leslie Hanford; four great-grandchildren; Kennedy and Owen Humphrey, Caedance Myer and Noah Hanford; nieces; nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by a sister, Helen C. Burlingame.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Arthur Barry officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Memorials are graciously directed to the Dryden Grange, c/o P.O.
