Ruth M. Sovocool

RUTH M. SOVOCOOL, age 89, formerly of Groton, NY and Auburn Road, Lansing, NY died Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the home of her daughter in Tyler, Texas. Mrs. Sovocool was born November 5th, 1917 in Buckhannan, WV, a daughter of the late Charles and Lucy Crites Newlon. She was graduated from Dryden High School and later married to L Jay Sovocool, who passed away Dec. 28th, 2004. L Jay and Ruth were residents of Groton until relocating to Lansing in 1970. Ruth was employed for many years at Smith Corona and later at the New York State School for Girls at Lansing, NY.

Survivors include her daughters, Rosalee Joan Devlen of Groton, Kathleen Rae (Dorrel) Harrison of Scottsburg, IN, and Janice Marie (Paul) Monagan of Tyler, Texas; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Dummitt of Syracuse, and Kathryn Givens of Binghamton, and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by twelve other brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, March 24, 2007 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. David Braid officiating. Burial will be in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. Friends are invited to call from 10 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St.,Dryden. Memorial gifts may be given to the Hickory Creek Nursing Home at Scottsburg, 1100 N. Gardner Ave., Scottsburg, IN 47170, which cared for Ruth during some of her time spent in Indiana with her daughter.
