Ruth R. Sweetland

RUTH R. SWEETLAND, age 90, of Pleasant Street, Dryden, NY passed away, Friday, Sept. 24, 2010 at the Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca. Ruth was born January 21, 1920 in Burnside, PA a daughter of the late Ney and Zula Wetzel Rowley. She was graduated from Dryden High School in 1937. On May 15, 1941 she was married to Edwin R. Sweetland, Jr. who died in 1992. Years ago she was employed at Smith Corona and later at the Dryden School. Ruth was a 63 year member of The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden, Dryden Senior Citizens and the Dryden Township Historical Society. Ruth took great pleasure and companionship with her pet cat, Sunny.

Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy Wilson of Binghamton and Cindy (Joseph) Fitzgerald of Groton, and her son, Richard Sweetland of Arlington, VA; sisters, Dora Seltzer of Cortland, Nellie Hunt of Freeville and Mildred Brown of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren, Ruthellen Viall of Binghamton, Kenneth (Melissa) Viall, III of Castle Creek and Katrina Sweetland of Los Alamos, NM; a daughter-in-law, Mary Timmers of Los Alamos, NM; three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ruth was predeceased her husband, Edwin R. Sweetland, Jr.; a son, William Sweetland, an infant sister, Nora Rowley and a sister, Dorothy Halme.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday, Sept. 27 at The First Presbyterian Church of Dryden with Rev. David C. Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Cemetery, Dryden.
