SAMUEL MATYCHAK, age 86, of Ithaca, NY died Monday, Dec. 6, 2004 at his residence after a brief illness. Sam was born April 7, 1918 in Sattersfield, PA a son of the late Myron and Mary Kelechawa Matychak. Sam served in the US Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He was a master carpenter and had worked for various local contractors, retiring from Cornell University in 1980. He was a member of the Carpenters Union Local #603. Sam was an avid gardener and sportsman who enjoyed deer hunting and ice fishing. He was an excellent cabinet maker and woodworker, providing his family with many handmade heirloom pieces for which they will forever be grateful.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Eleanor Keane Matychak of Ithaca; his children, Nancy M. (James) Walle of Van Etten, NY, Samuel K. (Katherine) Matychak of Pittsford, NY, Margaret A. (John) Coyle of Vestal, Lynda M. (Scott) Reiss of New Haven, VT, David M. (Mary) Matychak of Rochester, NY; his siblings, Daniel of Ithaca; Basil in Connecticut and Andrew(Katherine) of Lopez, PA and Martha Grant of Ithaca; six grandchildren, Cameron and Grace Matychak of Pittsford, Andrew and Patrick Coyle of Vestal and Samantha and Jacqueline Reiss of New Haven; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Anna Joseph, Rosalie Yarosh and Mildred Arents and a brother, Frederick Matychak.
Funeral services will be at 2 PM Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY with Rev. Scott Kubinski officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. It was Sam’s request that there be no calling hours.
