SIBYL RENAULD GOULD,
85, of Dryden died at home Sunday, January 15, 2006 after a remarkable struggle with a long illness. Sibyl was born and raised in Monroe, LA, the daughter of Bernard and Mattye Williams Renaud. She earned her Bachelors and Master’s degrees from Louisiana State University. She married Robert H. Gould in 1943, and moved with her husband to New York State.
Active in the Presbyterian Church, she has served as an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Dryden, and on committees in the Susquehanna Valley Presbytery and was the District 1 Enabler for Presbyterian Women. With her husband Robert, they twice served in India as Volunteers in Missions for the Presbyterian Church, USA.
Sibyl was a long time member of the Fortnightly Club of Dryden. She was also active in the Needle Club of Dryden. She served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Dryden Township Historical Society and was a member of the Friends of Willowbrook Manor where she served on the board.
Sibyl will be remembered as a conservationist, traveler and birdwatcher. With Elderhostel, she traveled to Central America, Mexico, Hawaii, Europe, the American West and China. She was a committed supporter of environmental and human rights issues.
