SYLVIA U. KNOWLTON, age 77, of 1216 Daisy Hollow Road, Dryden passed away Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY surrounded by her family. Mrs. Knowlton was born January 22, 1936 in Cortland, NY a daughter of the late Jonathon and Delia Moose Updyke, Jr. She was married for 53 years to Franklin C. Knowlton who passed away Feb. 25, 2011. Sylvia was graduated from Homer High School in 1953 and served as the Cortland County Dairy Princess in 1952. She was employed at Crescent Corset and later at Cortland Corset before retiring in 2004. Sylvia was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed the out of doors, spending time with her family and boating. Endless hours were spent doing needle point and crocheting gifts for the friends and family. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Survivors include her children, Laurie Hathaway of Virgil, John (Pamela) Knowlton of Homer, Jacklyn (Howard) Havington of Dryden and Nancy Knowlton of Virgil; her brother, Jerry (Melissa) Updyke and a sister, Beverly Fies; a sister-in-law Gwendolyn Updyke; grandchildren, Brandon, Benjamin, Matthew and Ashley Hathaway, Ryan and Eric Havington, Hannah Wilson and Wyatt Knowlton; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, John Updyke.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at the Perkins Funeral Home. h Rev. David H. Nicholls will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, NY. Friends are invited to call from 12 to 1 PM Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY. Friends are asked to consider a memorial to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or to the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home, 2160 Dryden Road, Dryden, NY 13053.
