Sylvia Joyce Lott

On Thursday, April 25, 2024 Sylvia Joyce Lott, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, of Dryden, New York, passed away at the age of 79 after a brief but hard fought battle with cancer.

Sylvia was born March 19, 1945 in Rome, New York. She graduated high school from Utica Free Academy.  On September 14, 1968 she married Walter Robert Lott and together they raised four sons, Troy, Eric, Dave, and Steve. Sylvia and Walter were married for 54 years until Walter’s passing in 2023. Sylvia spent many years employed as an executive assistant at the Child Development Council  in Ithaca, New York until she retired in 2016.

Sylvia had many different interests and passions. She loved listening to music, Elvis Presley being her all time favorite. She enjoyed taking care of her plants, cooking, and baking. She cherished the time she was able to spend with her fellow retired friends at their monthly luncheons. Some of the best times of her life were spent traveling with her husband Walter to visit her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Joe, in Texas and Las Vegas.

Her other passions often centered around the many pursuits of her children and grandchildren. Above all, family meant everything to Sylvia. She was most happy spending time with family whether it was at holiday gatherings, birthday parties, summer barbecues, athletic events, school concerts, musicals, recitals, etc. Sylvia had a huge heart, always welcoming new family with open arms.

Sylvia was a beautiful soul always ready to sacrifice to take care of others.  Besides taking care of her own children, she also took care of her husband, her own parents, and  mother in-law in their final years. Her love, support, and sacrifice is the legacy that she leaves behind for her children and their families.

Sylvia’s last act as a mother was yet another lesson in strength and courage, as she stood up to many setbacks during her bout with cancer.  She never stopped being a mom up until the day she died.

Sylvia is survived by her children Troy (fiancée Janina) Lott, Eric (Jamie) Lott, David (Billi-Jo) Lott, and Steven Lott;  grandchildren Evan (Jessica) Lott, Craig, Samantha, Sophia, Audrina, Anabella, Brooklynn, and Hayden;  great grandchild Kaiya;  sister Kathleen (Joseph) Lasich. Sylvia is predeceased by her husband Walter Lott, mother Helen (Meus) Chaufty, Father Theodore Millick, sister Charlotte (Millick) Menge and daughter in-law Evelyn (Siegler) Lott.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, May 1 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden, New York. A private burial ceremony will be held with immediate family. The Lott family will be forever grateful to the caring staff at Ithaca Hospicare.  Online at www.perkinsfh.com
