Thelma Vangorder Elliot

THELMA VANGORDER ELLIOTT, age 68, of 2707 NYS Rt. 215, Cortland, NY died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at her residence after a one year illness. Mrs. Elliott was born in Cortland, NY a daughter of the late Richard and Cleo Burgett VanGorder. She was a life area resident and on September 3, 1955 was married to Edward L. Elliott who survives. She was employed by the Cortland City Schools in the cafeteria services and previously worked for many years at NCC. Thelma was a member of the Churches of Christ in Christian Union for over 50 years and was associated with the Cincinnatus Churches of Christ in Christian Union and the Free Methodist Church of Grace St. In Cortland. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-mother, Esther Sickman VanGorder; her brothers, Darrell, Richard, Phillip "Pete" and Robert VanGorder and a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Donald Hahn.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Edward L. Elliott at home; her daughters, Vickey L. (Kenneth) Tobin of Cortland and Kelley M. (Martin) Arnold of Max Meadows, VA; her son, Phillip "Pete" (Deborah) Elliott of Cortland; her siblings, Thomas (Audrey) VanGorder of Fayetteville, NC, David (Marilyn) VanGorder of Seneca, SC, Dorla (Carl) Elliott of Marathon, NY, Rebecca (Russell) VanGorder of Locke, NY, Eileen (Thomas) Granato of Cortland and Judith Garrow of Groton; grandchildren, Jason, Tara and Erin Tobin, Michael and Daniel Arnold , Kelsey and Emily Elliott; her sisters-in-law, Marian VanGorder of Blodgett Mills, NY, Anita VanGorder of Cortland, Joanne VanGorder of Wasilla, Alaska and Emily VanGorder of Cortland. One aunt; one uncle; nieces; nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, December 21, 2004 at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Palmer Neumeister and Rev. Jim Kane officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Virgil Rural Cemetery, Virgil, NY. Friends are invited to call from 5 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY.
