Thelma O. Youmans, 96, formerly of Whitney Point and Dryden, NY went home to be with her Lord on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Cortland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
She was a longtime 4-H Leader and Sunday School Teacher with Whitney Point UMC. As a member of the Dryden UMC, she sang in the choir and was a charter member of “My Brother’s Keeper” quilt project. Her greatest joy was her family.
Mrs. Youmans is survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Ronald) Dean of Groton, NY; her son, Gary (Lisa) Youmans of Endicott, NY; four grandchildren, Troy (Kari) Dean of Moyock, NC, Ryan (Dana) Dean of St. Louis, MO, Christopher Youmans of Johnson City, NY and Michael Youmans of Endicott, NY; step grandchildren, Alexa Conklin and Damon Conklin of Chenango Bridge, NY; great grandchildren, Kalyn, Garret and Evan Dean; her brother, Erwin LaBelle (wife, Jean, deceased)of Whitney Point, NY; sister, Olga Marshall (husband, Harold , deceased) of Morrisonville, NY and many nieces and nephews. In addition, she was predeceased by her brother, Vernon (Bette) LaBelle , sister, Maida LaBelle and daughter in law, Linda Youmans .
Friends may call from 11 am-12 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2013 followed by a funeral service at 12 noon at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY with Rev. Richard Sivers officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in Riverside Cemetery, Whitney Point. Born April 20, 1917 in North Bangor, NY she was the daughter of the late John F. and Lulene R.Gonyea LaBelle and wife of the late Clarence A. Youmans.
Mrs. Youmans was a teacher’s aide at Whitney Point Central School and then a Legal secretary, retiring from Broome County Office of the Aging.
