Trudy A. Cathers
, age 64, of Spencer, NY and formerly of Dryden, NY passed away on July 28, 2011 at her home. Born April 27, 1947 in St. Petersburg FL, Trudy was the second oldest of 12 children of Alma Werner Hilley, residing in Virginia Beach, VA and the late John Hilley.
Survivors include her loving husband and soul mate, Michael Cathers, three children, Christine (Colt) Clough of Prescott, MI, Patrick (Tracey) Brunner of Freeville, NY and Mary (Eric) Olds of Atlanta, GA; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved, three step-children, Craig (Lea) Cathers of Plattsburg, NY, Matthew (Jennifer) Cathers of Yonkers, NY, and Jerris Cathers of Burlington, VT; siblings, John (Linda) Hilley of Simpsonville, S.C., Peggy (Charles) Doss of Lynchburg VA, Patrick (Michelle) Hilley of Gaylord MI, Brian Hilley of Appleton, WI, Sean Hilley of Suffolk, VA, Lucy Lucht of Atlanta GA, David (Holly) Hilley of Tigerton, WI, Brenda (William) Smith of Virginia Beach, VA, and Lance Hilley of Virginia Beach VA; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, William Hilley and a sister, Elizabeth Hilley.
While raising her family she went back to school and earned a degree in nursing. As head nurse of the Head Trauma Unit at Northwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Cortland, NY and being a loving, caring, and giving person she had found a job she truly loved. After working for many years and becoming disabled she retired to a job that would bring her the much needed physical therapy, gardening for the elderly in the area. Trudy really enjoyed this work, thought the world of her clients and would do anything for them. She enjoyed this work even to the last day of her life.
