Viola H. Miller

Viola H. Miller, age 99 of 135 Bush Lane, Ithaca, NY passed away Friday, January 18th, 2013 at home. Mrs. Miller was born March 30, 1913 in Ainsworth, Iowa, a daughter of the late Edwin and Margaret Herr Henry. She was a 1930 graduate of Norwich High School and a 1935 graduate of Cornell University. She was first married to John Ivan Miller, an Animal Husbandry Professor at Cornell, who passed away Dec. 8, 1980. Later she was married to James Mullane, also a Cornell alumnus who died Sept. 7, 1998. Viola has made her residence on Bush Lane since 1938 and has been active in many Cornell and community affairs. A life member of the Chi Omega sorority she was continuously involved in local and national sorority affairs. Viola was a member of the Cornell Club; a 55 Year member of the Thimble Club and a founding member of the Town of Lansing Planning Board where she volunteered for 44 years. Viola had also served on the Tompkins County Planning Board and was a member of the Ithaca Schools Consolidation Committee as well as a member of the Child Study Club. Viola was a 57 year member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Viola has made her residence on Bush Lane since 1938 and has been active in many Cornell and community affairs. Survivors include her sons, Robert S. Miller of Ithaca and James T. (Sandy) Miller of Houston, TX and a daughter, Carol L. (John) Hoff of Houston, TX; four grandchildren; a brother, Charles E. Henry of Frogmore, SC and a sister, Maxine Garland of Hartsville, SC; nieces and nephews. Viola was also predeceased by a brother, Herbert Henry.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, Jan. 22nd, 2013 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Ithaca with Rev. Eunice Taber officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM at church. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Loving Care Ministry, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 402 N.
