Virgil

Viola Johnson Storie, 12/5/1934 - 2/21/2025. Viola passed peacefully in her sleep at home as was her wish.

Viola was born in Virgil, New York and graduated from Virgil High School.  She was a long-time member of the Virgil Methodist Church, where she formed enduring friendships. Viola was a talented gardener, possessing a love for nature that she passed to her daughters. She was a Sweet Adeline for over 30 years, their friendship and love of music saw her through many difficult times. Viola retired from Smith Corona with over 30 years of service.  After retirement from SMC, Viola returned to college to get her CNA license.  She worked in the community for several years caring for elderly folks and enjoyed helping them remain independent.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years John Storie, her 4 daughters, Laurie Hourihan (Michael) and her son Hunter Young, Elizabeth Teed (Rick) her children Erin Preston and Eric and Evin Munson, Teena Wolfe (Mel) her children Benjamin Turner and Nicole Tadros, and Paulette Fisher (Gerry) her children Casey Dill, Adin Johnson, Sadie and Michael Fisher and 14 Great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her stepsons Robert Storie (Lisa), James Storie (DJ), David Storie, Johnny Storie (Eileen) and Jerry Hence (Shelley) and her stepson’s 20 children, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by her son Lawrence Martin and stepson Rick Storie.

Viola was predeceased by her parents and siblings, we know she is rejoicing at being reunited with her family.  She loved her nieces, nephews and extended family. She was always thrilled to host family reunions to keep the family connected.

Viola was a woman ahead of her time, she raised strong women and could make any house into a home.  She was well loved, Viola is in Jesus’ arms and will be sorely missed.

Services for Viola will be held at the Virgil United Methodist Church on Friday, February 28, 2025, with visitation from 2:00PM to 3:30PM with a service to follow. Burial in the Virgil Cemetery will be held later at the convenience of the family.
