Virginia C. Smith Bristow

VIRGINIA C. BRISTOW, age 99, a Cortland resident since 1988, passed away peacefully on Nov. 9th at the Cortland Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of declining health. Mrs. Bristow was the daughter of the late Virgil and Brooksanna Sessions Smith and the widow of Reginald Bristow who died June 6th, 1967. She was a 1937 graduate of Morris High School and a 1939 graduate of Oneonta Normal School. Her teaching assignments began in Hartwick and Cooperstown before beginning a 27 year career at the Ithaca, NY City Schools. She retired in 1972 to care for her aging father. Although she was childless, her life was devoted to her family and the Lord. To know the Lord is to love Him.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews in the Cortland and Homer area. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Gene Sanderson Smith and two nephews and one great nephew.
A modest person, she requested a private burial next to her husband and parents in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, NY. Mrs. Bristow urged that any remembrances be sent to the Child Evangelism Fellowship chapter of one's choice. Arrangements were entrusted to the Perkins Funeral Home.
