W. Barry Yaples

W. BARRY YAPLES, age 78, of Trumbulls Corners Rd., Newfield, NY, passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at Cayuga Medical Center at Ithaca.Born November 12, 1932 in Cortland, NY, he was a son of the late Walter E. and Hazel Merritt Yaples. He was a 1949 graduate of Dryden Central School and started dairy farming in Dryden in 1948 until 1970 when he moved to Newfield to continue on the Trumbulls Corners Rd. farm. He retired from active farming in 1992, but never truly stopped as it was his passion in life. While in school he was a member of Future Farmers of America and a 4-H member. Barry was a vegetable and dairy judge and was awarded trips to many county, state and national contests. He also showed cattle at the local Tompkins County Fair and the NY State Fair. He served on a Cooperative Extension Agricultural Committee for a few years. A wonderful loving husband, father, and grandfather, Barry married Jane Dedrick on July 5, 1958 at the Bible Baptist Church in Cortland, NY and she survives him at home. In addition, he is survived by sons, Dale (Cathy Holden) Yaples, Gene (Blixy Taetzsch) Yaples and Wayne Yaples all of Newfield, NY; daughters, Patty (Joseph) Trainor of Cicero, NY and Betty (Dale Palmatier) Yaples of Sullivanville, NY; grandchildren, Michael Jacob and Rachel Lynne Yaples of Newfield, NY and Ryan Evan Trainor of Cicero, NY; brothers and sisters in law, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and brother, Walter Yaples, Jr. and sisters, Janis Gangi and Delphine Howell.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden, NY with Rev. James DePue officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden, NY. Friends may call from 1-2 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
