Walter John Hopkins

October 24, 1931 — March 9, 2018

Walter J. Hopkins, age 86, of Cincinnatus, NY passed away Friday, March 09, 2018 at home, with his family by his side, after a lengthy illness.
Born October 24, 1931 in Lisle, NY he was one of nine children born to the late Leon O. and Myrtie B. Japhet Hopkins. A US Army Veteran, Walt served from 1952-1954. Walt has been a lifelong farmer and had also worked at various other places including school custodian, Smith Corona, O’Shea Tire and as a bus driver with J.M. Murray Center. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed mowing lawn and tending his flowers, especially his roses.
Walt is survived by his wife of 66 years, Esther L. Couch Hopkins at home; his daughter, Joyce (Roger) Stanton of Cincinnatus; son, Randy (Christine) Hopkins of Marathon; 7 grandchildren, Timothy (Susan Tollison) Stanton, Benjamin Stanton, Nicholas (Laura Nunn)Stanton, Bethany (Dylan) Stanton-Nowalk, Kodi (Michael ) Hopkins, Morgan Hopkins and Breanna Hopkins; 11 great grandchildren, Layla, Mason, Caitlyn, Travis, Ethan, Christian, and Alexander Stanton, Ysabelle Miller, Xaynyn Nowalk, Chevelle Nowalk and Alice Olivia Blake; great great grandson, Nolan and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Walt was predeceased by siblings, Clifford Hopkins, Charles Hopkins, Louise Harders, Jeanette Hopkins, Leon Hopkins and Albert Hopkins.
Family and Friends are invited to call from 10-11 AM, followed by Funeral Services at 11 AM, Monday, March 12, 2018 at Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden, NY with Pastor Ted Norman officiating. Spring burial will be in the Center Lisle Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850.
