WANITA J. SLACK,
age 79, of 1891 Babcock Hollow Road, Cortland, NY (Town of Virgil) passed away Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008 at her home after a long illness. Wanita was born May 18, 1929 at Blodgett Mills, NY a daughter of the late Newton and Ethel Oliver Holcomb and was a life area resident. She was retired from being a Home Health Aide for Cortland County. Her first husband , William Slack, died in 1977. Later she was married to Leo Freelove who passed away in 1998. She enjoyed senior travel and casino trips, but of all she enjoyed her family that will greatly miss her.
Survivors include her sons, Paul J. (Marjorie) Slack and Carl W. (Louisa) Slack both of Virgil, her daughter, Thelma L. (Douglas) Gunn also of Virgil; a step-daughter, Karen Lunn; a step-son, Marlin L. Freelove; a brother, Jack (Frances) Holcomb of Florida and a sister, Edith (Henry) Beebe of Newark Valley; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Slack of Berkshire; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Leon H. Slack; a step-son, Harold J. Freelove; siblings, Phelidela Colby, Thelma Muckey, Homer Holcomb, Esther Snavely, Robert Holcomb, Rodney Holcomb and Ruth Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 11 AM Friday, Nov. 28, 2008 in Virgil Rural Cemetery with Rev. Archie Smith officiating. There are no calling hours.
