Warren “Tom” Ranney, who died on March 20, 2018, left behind art and poetry lovers who long appreciated his paintings, which hang in several notable galleries, and his large portfolio of published poetry which speaks to those who value craft and candor and the purity of artful but direct honesty about the human condition.
His true love and commitment were to his philosophical beliefs which were forged in the teachings of Masters, Baba Sawan Singh Ji, Ruhani Satsang, Darshan Singh and Saint Kirpal Singh Ji along with his time spent in India. He understood and embraced the joy he discovered in the Indian people he met who had no need of status nor of material wealth. He lived his life accordingly in joyful sobriety and near poverty while maintaining a clear eyed distance from the systemic ravages of an unprincipled government and the uncontrollable greed and vanity of those in power.
Born January 12, 1940, he was a lifelong resident and observer of Ithaca and its people and institutions. He was an important and honest voice which will be missed by all who knew and loved him and his art.
Tom’s dear friends, Mark Poole and Mindy Mindlin, have Tom’s love and gratitude.
