WILLIAM S. "BILL" JOHANSON, 84, of 63 Lieb Road, Danby, died in Punta Gorda, FL, on March 25, 2006 after a long illness. Bill was born September 1, 1921 in Danby, NY to Alma and Charles Johanson. He was graduated from Ithaca High School in 1941 and proudly served his country with the US Coast Guard during WWII. His duty included serving on the USS Leonard Wood in the Pacific Theater. Upon returning home from the war, he studied art at the Pratt Institute in New York City and when returning to Ithaca he was employed at the Ithaca Gun Company as an engraver. In 1950 he married his long time love the former Daisy B. Kimble. Daisy passed away on September 17, 2003 after 53 years together. Together they owned and operated Johanson

Apartments. Bill held memberships in the local carpenters union, the Masonic Order, the American Legion, Finger Lakes Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Elks Lodge BPOE, the Ithaca Eagles Lodge and the Danby Pirates Club. For 40 years they enjoyed wintering in Engelwood, FL where Bill was an active member of the Englewood Elks Lodge. Bill was a devoted and beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who loved him including his Labrador Retriever, "Zephyr".

Survivors include two daughters, Sue (Bob) Banks of Amarillo TX and Jane (Bruce) Doran of Punta Gorda, FL.; two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and William "Billy" Banks both of Amarillo, TX ; nieces; nephews and his long term care giver, Donna Gilbert. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his six sisters: Edee Prouty, Nea Crevelling, Pauline Lis, Milly Bower, Svea 'Bebe' Compton, Thelma Nichol; his three brothers: Joe Johanson, Eugene 'Bud' Johanson, and Duke Johanson.

Funeral services will be at 1 PM Thursday, April 6, 2006, at the Perkins Funeral Home with Rev. Barbara DeAngelis officiating. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Ithaca with military honors provided by the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home Ritual Team. The family will be present to receive their friends from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, 55 West Main St., Dryden.
