WILLIAM L. NYE, age 65, of Harford, NY went to be with “The Big Guy in the Sky” on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011 at the Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY. He was born in Cortland on Oct. 6, 1946, a son of the late George and Dorothy Glover Nye. He was employed many years ago at Smith Corona and later at Dryden Schools as a custodian.He had a great sense of humor which he displayed right up until the end by telling each of us he loved us and then stating “I love me too".
He enjoyed it that the students called him “Bill Nye the Science Guy”.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family, discussing politics, watching horror movies and eating a good meal. Before his illness he loved working in his garden, fishing, camping, preparing holiday meals for his family and shopping. He was the only man I knew who could get lost in a store for hours. Bill was a friend to many and loved by all. His great sense of humor touched all that he knew.He is survived by his wife, Sonya Grant Nye of Harford; daughters, Pamela (David) Seaman of Harford, Kelli (Jeff Beeman) Nye of Dryden; grandchildren, Heidi, Heather, Angel, Jonathan and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Devin and Kaylie and many nieces and nephews. His siblings, Phil, Floyd, Gerry and Lindy went to be with the Lord ahead of him.Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main St., Dryden. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours. Those wishing to remember Bill are asked to consider a memorial to the Harford Fire Company, P.O. Box 7, Harford, NY.
