William ("Billy") W. Wood II, age 54 of Freeville, NY passed away on Wednesday, January 10th, 2018 surrounded by his family, following his courageous six month battle with Glioblastoma Multiforme brain cancer. Billy was born on January 12th, 1963 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He grew up in Dryden and graduated from Dryden High School in 1981. He served in the United States Army and then earned a degree in Aviation Mechanics. Billy pursued a career as a carpenter in the construction field and was an everyday handyman. But most notable is his list of hobbies that were never ending: from online software and stocks, to wood burning, magic tricks and cooking. Billy was a man of a few words, however known for his witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his parents, Donna Mellberg Wood (Gary Liddington) of Freeville and William W. Wood of Florida. He is also survived by his four children, Samantha, Dillon, Rebecca and Lindsey Wood of Newfield and their mother Robin Wood. In addition, he is survived by his sister, Amy Wood Gonzalez (Al), his niece, Hannah and nephew, Ian Gonzalez. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Rosemary Wood of Florida. In addition, he is survived by a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins. Billy was predeceased by his half-brother, Nicholas Wood, his maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
Special thanks are given to the Syracuse VA Medical Center, Cayuga Medical Center Radiation/Oncology, Cayuga Hematology Oncology Associates and Hospicare of Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Billy Wood to Hospicare at 172 E. King Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850.
A private family gathering will take place on Friday, January 12th in celebration of Billy's 55th birthday. Friends and family may gather in remembrance on Sunday, January 14th, 2018 from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Dryden Veterans Memorial Home (VFW) at 2272 Dryden Road.
