William E. Worth, Jr., 84, of 26 Kimberly Drive, Dryden, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Tompkins County Hospicare Residence. He was born on September 22, 1928 on Staten Island, New York, to Louise Feist Worth and William E. Worth, Sr.

William E. Worth, Jr ., 84, of 26 Kimberly Drive, Dryden, died Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at the Tompkins County Hospicare Residence. He was born on September 22, 1928 on Staten Island, New York, to Louise Feist Worth and William E. Worth, Sr.

Bill graduated from New Dorp High School, Long Island Ag and Tech, and Cornell University. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp. from 1952 to 1954. In 1954 he began his career as a County Extension Agent in Chenango County. In 1976 he began working at Cornell University as Assistant Director for Ag and Natural Resources. After retiring in 1993 he served on the Board of Lifelong of Tompkins County. He was also active in the Dryden community, serving on the committee for the Dryden Lake Park as well as Time Square. He also served on the board of the Willowbrook Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, and visiting his children.

Survivors include his wife, Ione Birks Worth, of Dryden; his daughter, Gretchen Worth of Bangkok, Thailand; his two sons, John Worth of East Burke, Vermont; and James Worth, his wife, Eleanor, and their sons, Hunter and Joshua, of Kula, Hawaii. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Worth, of Mahwah, New Jersey, and several cousins, one of whom he was especially close to, Janet Churchill, of Summerville, South Carolina. He will be greatly missed by his family, his neighbors, and his many friends.

No calling hours or services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a future date. If so desired, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to the S.P.C.A. of Tompkins County, 1640 Hanshaw Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850; Hospicare of Tompkins County, 172 East King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850; or the Dryden Kitchen Cupboard, Box 42, Dryden, NY. Perkins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
