Wilma June Puderbaugh

September 4, 1934 — May 17, 2018

WILMA JUNE ATKINS PUDERBAUGH of Cortland passed away on May 17, 2018 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center less than a month before her 90th birthday.
Wilma was born on June 10, 1928 to Edward and Ione Bingham Atkins. She graduated from McGraw Central School in 1947 and married Gordon B. Puderbaugh on October 22, 1949. Wilma worked at Smith Corona, Smith School Cafeteria, and the Vesta Corset Company. She was a member of the Homer Avenue United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Cortland Church Women United. Everyone loved her pies and plants at the church rummage sale. She volunteered for many years at Randall School and the Cortland Historical Society.
Wilma and Gordon raised four children, full of love and camping adventures. Wilma is survived by her three daughters, Gloria (William) Hulslander, Jane (Thomas) Wheeler and Kay (Keith) Danby, all of Marathon. She was a devoted “Gram” to her four grandchildren, Wayne Wheeler of Vestal, Karen (Norbert) Hovancik of Johnson City, Mary (Dustin) Sala of Ocklawaha, Florida and Allison (Kristopher) Young of Pittsford, New York. She was a proud great grandmother to Rachel Wheeler, Donovan Burgher, Britany Hovancik and Ava and Sophia Sala. Wilma is also survived by her sister Dorothy Smith of Moravia.
In addition to her parents, Wilma was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1995, son David in 2016, her sister Vivian Atkins and brother Robert Atkins.
Wilma’s girls wish to thank Walden Place, TLC Ambulance Service and the Cortland Regional Medical Center Emergency Room for their care during the last several years. A special thank you to the nurses of 2C at Cortland Regional Medical Center for their love and compassion during Mom’s last few days. Thank you to Pastor Paul Winkelman for bringing Mom peace and anointment in her final moments.
